The ingame menus look awesome! what does "start new multiplayer game" mean ? Will we be able to instantly host a server, like in left4dead ?

Yes.

Yes.

I will chat about this, ideally we want hosted servers rather than "lobby games" created on the fly Smiley

hosting a server on your own machines will be possible though but i wouldnt recommend hosting and playing on the same machine. Take all this info including spins answer with this clause

"infomation given here about hosting servers/lobby games is subject to change"

Yeah, I personally wouldn't EVER play on a listen server.  However I have always seen a demand for this option for easy lan gaming, which is popular for this type of game.

Any game that doesn't provide a dedicated server package is weak, in my opinion.  Every online game should be built to work with dedicated server and client as standard, with listen servers as an added bonus, NOT as the only way to play Wink

Will this game be integrated with the forum? Will you be able to login with your forum name or will your forum name be reserved ingame?

That system is still being discussed and brainstormed, no concrete solution as of yet.

sounds perfect. I know some players have incredible university internet connections for example, from 100 to 200 mbit/s. Hosting a local game is not a problem for them. Also for 1on1s or 2on2s you might not need a dedicated server anymore, a big plus imo considering the price of gameservers.
But one thing is sure indeed, dedicated servers are a MUST for first person shooters.

Speaking about lobby systems, what about creating a little pause between 2 maps, as in an external lobby, without leaving the server. It should be giving players the opportunity to chat about last game, next game, go to the toilet, get a beer, decide whether they want to play another map or not, allows to renew the players for the next map giving new players the chance to play the pistol round, maybe a mapvote alongside the chatwindow, some stats about last game, a timer to indicate the start of next map, im sure theres plenty of other stuff that could be interesting to put between 2 maps, even if it only lasts 20 seconds or so.

And maybe a general lobby. Like an IRC channel where you can hang out if you dont wanna play for half an hour, or where you can find an opponent, or just chat about the game. IRC is outdated. Steam group channels work very well, but you'd need steam. I think the social aspect of the game should be just as polished as the game itself, so that people can share impressions, and stimulate a successful start of a new community, even if im well aware that its easier to say than to create ^^

I do like the idea of a pause in a clan war, not on public servers...

What i mean with this is that a pause and the length of this pause can be arranged before war starts.
This can then be put in the admin command/console and after or before each map you get, for example, a 5 minute pause so people can smoke, pee, kiss girl/boy/husband/wife, whatever you can come up with.

Even though it sounds cool what you say, I think all humans are unable to play hours in a row without losing concentration or without drinking or without going to toilet. Ive noticed in RTS games, where you don't automatically go from one map to another but back to a lobby, that my friends and I tend to chat about the game between maps. I'm even liking the pauses better than the game itself sometimes, because theres no pressure, you can have a laugh etc.

It also creates a supplementary contrast. Days off are only cool because normally you'd work. If every day was a day off, that SOUNDS cool, but it really is not. Im not sure but it might be the same in a game. Playing becomes cooler, when you have to wait a little while and prepare for it. No need to make it a long annoying pause in life like work, but just a couple of seconds of not seeing anyone get shot.

I do like the idea of a pause or some form of lobby inbetween, but i'd wish for such a feature to be configurable serverside for length of time (believe someone already mentioned this).
